Goals
The Centre’s goals are:
- to unravel the cellular basis of visual sensing and processing,
- to reveal the algorithms that underlie the visual control of behaviour and perception, and
- to discover the cellular mechanisms that make the eye and retina stable, and whose breakdown causes blindness.
Through these goals we will achieve the following outcomes:
- Fundamental understanding of visual signalling and information processing.
- Breakthroughs in the detection, prevention, and treatment of visual impairment:
- Detecting glaucoma and multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Understanding, preventing, and treating retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and macular degeneration (AMD)
- Preventing and treating myopia
- Novel strategies for machine vision and robotics.
- Collaborative synergies: bringing together major research teams in visual sciences.
